Vimla Band, Ph.D., and Hari Koul, Ph.D.
Vimla Band, Ph.D., received an Outstanding Women Scientist Award from the American Association of Indian Scientists in Cancer Research (AAISCR) at the organization’s meeting on April 7. This award is “given to women to honor those whose contributions to research have been outstanding and who have served as a role model for all women in cancer research.” At right, Dr. Band, chair of the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology & Anatomy, receives the award from Hari Koul, Ph.D., chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology, LSU Health Sciences Center.

“Straight Talk About the Heart,” an educational event to benefit the American Heart Association, will be held on April 26 in the lower Storz Pavilion in Clarkson Tower. Subjects will include transcatheter aortic valve replacement, varicose veins and adult congenital heart disease. For more information on speakers and times, click here. Baxter Bell, M.D., will be speaking on “How Modern Yoga Can Help Our Patients: The Studies, the Theory and the Practices,” at noon on May 2 at the Sorrell Center, Room 4053. Dr. Bell is a physician, medical acupuncturist and a Yoga Alliance certified educator. Dr. Bell is passionate about sharing the emerging benefits of yoga for a wide variety of health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Registration is now open for the 2014 Innovation in Pedagogy and Technology, an intercampus symposium. The event will be held May 15 at the Cornhusker Marriott in downtown Lincoln.
