As spring nears, the campus community has a variety of warm weather activities planned for the weeks ahead. Mark your calendars for:
Tour De Cure registration
Thursday, April 17
There will be a UNMC registration session for Tour de Cure from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Sorrell Center, by the entry to the skywalk on second floor. Bike for Sight
April 26
UNMC will host the 2014 Bike for Sight on Saturday, April 26, at Miller’s Landing on the downtown Omaha riverfront. The charity bike tour aims to raise awareness and funds to support a vision-restoring cataract camp in Nepal, a country located in south Asia bordered by India and China.
For every registered rider, UNMC’s Prevention of Global Blindness division will perform one free cataract surgery on a patient living needlessly blind in Nepal. It’s estimated that 25 percent of the population in Nepal is below the poverty line.
Both casual and serious riders of all ages and skill levels can enjoy the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. Participants can choose between 5,- 10-, 20- and 40- mile routes. Pre-registration is available here or in person the day of the event.
Field Day, Fun Day!
May 1
Held on Thursday, May 1 on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza lawn, Field Day, Fun Day! will feature three-legged and wheelbarrow races, along with soccer-kick, beanbag and Frisbee-toss contests.
Teams and individuals also will get to take part in hula hoops, ladder ball and croquet in an event put on by the College of Public Health as part of the Center for Healthy Living’s fitness campaign, Everybody. Everyday.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, and refreshments will be provided. Festivities will run 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, email, call 9-5254 or stop by the Center for Healthy Living front desk.
