Lookin’ at U – Leni Rauschenberg

Leni Rauschenberg

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.
This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Leni Rauschenberg
  • Hometown: Winona, Minn.
  • No. of years at UNMC: 40 years (on and off)

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
As an office assistant in the Olson Center for Women’s Health, I help in any way possible with the projects of our area. This includes ordering and maintaining our supply of educational brochures, preparing materials for our health fairs, conferences, and “brown bag” programs, mailings of our publications and helping co-workers as needed with their projects.

“Working together” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed an example of people working together at UMMC.
The cooperation of the four of us in the Olson Center makes it possible to carry out our many functions. Particularly, Lana Molczyk’s coordination with other departments here at UNMC and a number of non-campus organizations provides the basis for the various programs of the Olson Center.

What is your favorite spring activity?
Getting outdoors when the weather turns nice and doing a little hiking.

List three things people may not know about you:

  • My parents were immigrants from Germany — thankfully before Hitler came to power — and I was born just three months after their arrival.
  • I spent the years from 1959 to 1969 working in the hospital and clinic facilities of the Arabian American Oil company in Saudi Arabia — a much more peaceful time than currently exists in the Middle East. This provided an opportunity to travel to many parts of the world which I would never have been able to do otherwise.
  • I marvel at all of the changes that have taken place during my lifetime — the growth of our city, many new kinds of technology, the development of electronics and space travel.
