Kim Michael, director of diagnostic medical sonography in the School of Allied Health Professions, has been awarded the school’s latest named professorship: the inaugural Joseph and Darlene Anderson Distinguished Professorship of Imaging Sciences.
The professorship is named for Joseph Anderson, M.D., professor and vice chair of radiology, and his wife, Darlene, thanks in part to their lead gift. The Andersons’ gift was matched by the Charles R. O’Malley Charitable Lead Trust.
Dr. Anderson, professor and vice chair of radiology, has served as medical director of the School of Allied Health Professions DMS program since its inception in 1998.
Michael, an associate professor of radiation science technology in the SAHP, has been DMS program director for the duration of her 15-year appointment at UNMC.
She is known nationally for her work in sonography education and has been instrumental in turning UNMC’s DMS program into one of the best in the country, said SAHP senior associate dean Kyle Meyer, Ph.D.
She currently serves on the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Foundation board of directors.
The Anderson Professorship will initially support the expansion of educational opportunities in the sonography program at UNMC to include musculoskeletal sonography.
Thankfully to Dr. Anderson and the O'Malley Trust, and proud of Kim Michael's appointed professorship!
Kim, congratulations and thanks to the O'Malley Trust and Dr. Anderson for their support.
Congratulations Kim Michael. It was pleasure to sit for your lectures, this professorship is well deserved.
