The Nebraska LEAD program fellows visited UNMC March 1 and 2. The LEAD program is a statewide agricultural leadership development program housed at University of Nebraska Lincoln. The purpose of LEAD is annually to provide 30 of Nebraska's most promising adult men and women agriculturalists with an opportunity to participate in an intensive two-year educational program designed to enhance leadership development, essential for the long-term future of farming/ranching, agribusiness in Nebraska and the nation. As a part of the LEAD fellowship program, fellows visited the UNMC College of Public Health Rural Health Education Network, a visit which included a VIP campus tour and lectures by UNMC faculty, including Jane Meza, Ph.D., interim dean of the College of Public Health; Risto Rautiainen, Ph.D., director of the UNMC Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health; Patrik Johansson, M.D., director of the Rural Health Education Network, and others.

Renaisa Anthony, M.D., M.P.H., deputy director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at UNMC, is adding actress to her resume when she appears in the March 15 production of "The Vagina Monologues." Proceeds from the show go to support domestic violence prevention and reproductive health programs at the Women's Center for Advancement. "The Vagina Monologues" is an episodic play based off of interviews on a large variety of topics conducted with women of a wide range of ages, ethnicities and sexualities. It addresses reproductive health disparities. Performances of "The Vagina Monologues" will be held at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Sokol Auditorium, 2234 S. 13th St. Tickets are $11 in advance or $15 at the door and can be purchased online here. The Nebraska Medical Center Sports Medicine Program will hold a seminar entitled "Managing Concussions: A Team Approach" from 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on April 2 at the Durham Research Center, Room 1002. Ashley Havlena, 26, a colon cancer survivor and 2009 graduate from in the College of Nursing Lincoln Division, was in New York City on Monday for a colorectal cancer awareness march with the Fight Colorectal Cancer organization. While in the city, the David City, Neb., native, also rang the NASDAQ bell in Times Square at 4 p.m. She also is participating in the Colon Cancer Alliance Dress in Blue Day, which is today.
