Selaba Travis
Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Selaba Travis
  • Hometown: Aurora, Colo.
  • No. of years at UNMC: 25

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

My working title is research program associate. I assist the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine’s vice chair for research and the department with its research efforts. My duties include producing the departmental newsletter and coordinating the summer undergraduate research program and the summer undergraduate alcohol research program, among others.

Being a trusted resource is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.

I’ve seen the calendars of several of our busy physicians and know they work long hours to make sure their patients get the best care possible whether it is through the time they spend in clinic, through their research or by teaching the next generation of physicians.

What is your favorite winter activity?

Curling up, watching movies at home. Seed catalogues help the winter go by, too.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I’ve taken graphic design, introductory journalism and photography classes to keep up with the demands of my job. These are things that 20 years ago I would not have imagined I would have done.
  • I have a houseplant at home, a Hoya, that is probably 100 years old.
  • I hope that weight training, cardio workouts and yoga will help me stay mobile in my old, old age.
