The 10th annual Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) Walk & Roll for Disabilities will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Oak View Mall.
WHAT: The Walk & Roll consists of hundreds of people walking (and rolling in wheelchairs) around mall at the same time in matching T-shirts. It’s a show of solidarity and a call for inclusion of people with disabilities in the community.
WHY: When adults with disabilities reach the age of 21, opportunities to get together to meet with their friends, socialize and spend time away from their parents diminish. The Munroe-Meyer Institute is one of the few places in the area that continue to offer recreation opportunities for people with special needs as they get older, thanks to funding from the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities.
WHEN: The event begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 2. Activities include:
- 9-10:30 a.m.: Check-in and refreshments.
- 10:15 a.m.: Prize drawings. (You must be present to win.)
- 10:20 a.m.: Introductions.
- 10:25 a.m.: National anthem.
- 10:30 a.m.: WALK & ROLL!
- 11 a.m.: Final door prize drawings. (You must be present to win.)
TO REGISTER: Registration is $30 at the door, but still only $25 online up to today (Feb. 26) at midnight. For more information and to register, click here.
