Editor's Note: Each month, InterCOM will highlight a "Student of the Month" from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.
Personal:
-Hometown: Omaha
-Education: Westside High School; St. Olaf College (B.A., major – biology); University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity)
-Family: Married with three daughters, one dog, one cat, and one fish (the only other male in the house)
Activities outside of medical school:
-Pastor of a small house church that meets weekly in our home
-Preaching at local churches when their regular pastors are out of town
Hobbies:
-Spending time with my family. We enjoy going for hikes, having backyard fires, going to the zoo, and playing at the park with our dog.
-Running, reading, and playing the drums.
Staying Balanced:
-Sounds crazy, but there is nothing better for staying balanced in medical school than having a family. Every night, I have a forced break from school with smiling kids and a talented and beautiful wife who pull me out of the medical school stressors. They help take my mind off school so that I can return refreshed the next day.
