Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:
- Name: Heather Nutsch
- Hometown: Omaha
- No. of years at UNMC: 11
Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am a data coordinator for clinical trials in adult hematology/oncology. I collect information from the medical record and enter it in to a database or on paper forms. This job is so much more than just data entry. It’s learning about the disease I work with, researching aspects of the disease or things in the electronic medical record that I don’t understand, and analysis of the data entered to help identify further data that may be generated, like an adverse event that occurred while a subject was taking the investigational drug.
Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time that you were impressed with how people work together at UNMC.
My job involves frequent collaboration with a team of nurses that cares for patients on our clinical trials. They have always been helpful with questions that I have or requests to create documentation for study data. I do my best, in turn, to provide them with a quick data summary when requested.
What is your favorite winter activity?
I love having snow days at home with my kids. We watch movies, start a roaring fire, bake cookies and watch it snow.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I have two children: Hannah is 6 and Declan is 16 months.
- I must feed my creative side. My past is filled with many dance recitals, theater performances and piano performances. When motherhood limits my free time, I’ve taken up knitting as a creative art that I can work on in small amounts of time.
- I am a thrill-seeker. My favorite thrills are rollercoasters and zip line excursions. My husband and I share mutual enjoyment in the latter and seek out new zip line destinations when we travel.
