Future UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., will meet with various faculty, staff, students and campus leaders during a one-day visit Monday as he prepares to assume the role of chancellor, effective Feb. 1.
Dr. Gold offered his congratulations to University of Nebraska President J.B. Milliken on his recently announced decision to take a leadership role at the City University of New York. Dr. Gold said he will work with President Milliken over the next few months as Dr. Gold transitions into his new role.
“President Milliken is an exceptional leader and will be missed in Nebraska,” Dr. Gold said. “I remain committed to bringing UNMC to a new level of excellence.”
Dr. Gold said he is fully engaged in the transition process and looks forward to working with university and community leaders to build upon the vision created for UNMC.
“I believe this vision will set the stage for the future of higher education in the health professions, scholarly pursuit in the biosciences and the delivery of health care that can become a model for generations to come in Nebraska and globally,” he said.
Dr. Gold currently serves as chancellor and executive vice president of biosciences and health affairs and executive dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo in Ohio. He has been at that university since 2005.
