Discounted tickets remain available for the preview performance of the UNMC-sponsored play “Next to Normal” at the Omaha Community Playhouse.

The show is on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and is open seating.

Tickets are for sale at a special price of $5 and are available only for UNMC employees and students. There is a limit of two tickets per person.

About the show: The 2010 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama, “Next to Normal” is a deeply moving rock musical and raw account of a family dealing with mental illness, tragedy and the realities of modern society. An overly medicated mother tries to cope with bipolar disorder as her family struggles to maintain normalcy in their suburban home for her sanity and their own. A hard-driving rock score with tear-inducing ballads make this show unlike any other. Gripping and heart-wrenchingly real, “Next to Normal” is groundbreaking contemporary theater.

Disclaimer: The show contains strong language and adult situations and is intended for mature audiences. Not suitable for children, this musical contains heavy themes, drug use and profanity.

There also are discounted tickets available to the preview night of “Having Our Say” this Thursday, Jan 16 at 7:30 p.m.

About the show: At ages 101 and 103, resilient African-American sisters Bessie and Sadie Delany have lived through historic events, such as the Civil Rights Movement, Jim Crow laws and women’s suffrage. These cultural pioneers never married, stating, “We were too smart, too independent for most men” and pursued education and careers during a time when it was unheard of to do so. Their endearing stories are humorous and historical as they invite the audience into their home for an evening of memories in this touching, biographical, two-person play, starring real-life sisters Camille Metoyer Moten and Lanette Metoyer Moore.

Tickets are for sale for $5 and are available for UNMC employees and students. There is a limit of two tickets per person.

Contact Anna Kirshenbaum to purchase tickets to either show. Tickets will be available for pick up in the Public Relations Department in the 4230 Building.

The Omaha Community Playhouse is located at 6915 Cass St. in Omaha.
