At UNMC, there are so many stories — tales of triumph and humor, stories that can break the heart while simultaneously illustrating indomitable courage and grace.
The official UNMC blog, “A Day in the Life,” offers an opportunity to tell these stories, to open a window into the positive impact UNMC and its dedicated employees, faculty and students can have on our community.
For 2013, the editors offer six of the most inspiring stories spotlighted in “A Day in the Life” in 2013. In order of publication, they are:
Aidan’s Animals: One family’s tragedy gives rise to an effort to comfort children in crisis.
Tammy and Olivia: Tammy Kielian, Ph.D., targets Juvenile Batten disease — for personal reasons as well as professional ones.
Power Wheels: A few alterations in toy cars make a big difference for these children.
The Science of Friendship: A boy comes to Camp Munroe to have fun and to learn how to make friends.
How Healthy U Saved my Life: A routine checkup has lifesaving implications for a UNMC staff member.
Dr. Maurer and His Patient: As UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., transitions to a new position, this story offers a reminder that, in addition to his impact on UNMC, his work as a physician has also been life-altering.
And as an extra: The year’s most popular blog was not designed to tug at the heartstrings — at least, not unless you can feel for a campus historian bravely making the best of an ill-designed time capsule in This Time Capsule’s All Wet.
