A group from the UNMC Radiation Science Technology Education Program helps trim a tree at the Ronald McDonald House.

Students, faculty, family and alumni from the UNMC Radiation Science Technology Education Program all helped decorate the Ronald McDonald House for Christmas earlier this month. James Temme, associate director of RSTE, served chili to all the participants. Cookies and cupcakes were contributed by the RSTE alumni. Also, on Nov. 21, the RSTE students, with support from the RSTE alumni, delivered coats, hats and gloves to the Miller Park Elementary School. Each year, the students collect new and gently-used winter coats, caps, gloves and monetary donations for the purchase of stocking caps and gloves for the children.

Ron Withem, senior associate vice president for university affairs and director of governmental relations at the University of Nebraska, is the 2013 recipient of the Marvin D. “Swede” Johnson Achievement Award, administered annually by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the American Association of Community Colleges. The award recognizes extraordinary achievement in state relations and institutional advocacy to governors, state legislators and other policymakers. In his position with the University of Nebraska, Withem serves as the lobbyist for UNMC and the other campuses.
