Why I chose to specialize in infectious diseases:
My family taught me a commitment to the poor and disenfranchised early on in life. I fell in love with the field of internal medicine while in medical school, and from there, ID was a natural fit because it is challenging and engaging and allows for opportunities to empower the vulnerable.

Three things you don’t know about me:
- Spanish was my first language.
- I considered deferring college to become a professional ballet dancer.
- I was admitted to medical school via Mount Sinai’s Humanities and Medicine program, so I never took the MCAT and still don’t understand how it’s scored.
