Jeffrey Gold, M.D. |
The finalist — Dr. Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., chancellor and executive vice president of biosciences and health affairs and executive dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio — will give a public presentation at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium (Room 1002) of the Durham Research Center. Members of the university community, other stakeholders and members of the public are welcome to attend and hear him discuss his vision for UNMC.
Dr. Gold has served at the University of Toledo since 2005. The university is the third-largest public university in Ohio, with about 16,000 undergraduates, 8,000 graduate and professional students, 14 academic units and an estimated economic impact of $5.4 billion. In his current role, Dr. Gold has full leadership responsibility of the clinical, education and research programs of the university’s health sciences, the faculty practice plan and the clinical delivery system.

Dr. Gold was key in the 2006 merger of the University of Toledo and Medical University of Ohio. He has improved clinical quality and safety as well as the patient experience, as measured by national peer groups and the university’s own metrics. He’s facilitated the development of three interdisciplinary degree-granting schools within the University of Toledo: the School of Biomarker Research and Individual Medicine, the School of Interprofessional Education and Advanced Human Performance, and the School of Health Care Innovation and Business Excellence.
As part of a university-wide capital campaign, Dr. Gold has established multiple named professorships, laboratories and hospital/ambulatory facilities. Health sciences now account for roughly half of all university-wide annual giving.
His areas of interest include academic health system leadership development, development and implementation of national health care policy, access to higher education and health care, enhancing diversity in higher education and academic health care, and patient safety and patient-centered program development. He has strong interest in interprofessional education and advanced simulation overseeing the planning of a remarkable advanced simulation center.
University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken said Dr. Gold was identified by the university’s consultants in the search process, Isaacson Miller, in close consultation with Milliken and the search committee chairman, Dr. Jim Linder, following a decision to identify additional outstanding candidates. Dr. Gold was interviewed by the search committee in October. Milliken said Dr. Gold is the only finalist under consideration at this time.
