Panel discussion will explore possible UNMC partnerships in Oman

UNMC's Louise laFramboise and Danielle Dohrmann, second and third from left, met with government health and hospital officials during a visit to Oman.

The UNMC Office of International Health and Medical Education will host a presentation and discussion on UNMC’s newly developing Omaha-Oman connections on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room 3030 in the Center for Nursing Science building at 4101 Dewey Ave.

Over the past 18 months, travel and discussions between UNMC and Sultanate of Oman officials have occurred about a variety of collaborative partnerships, centered on education and research.

The Omani government is leveraging significant resources to strengthen its health system through advanced education of health professionals in medicine, nursing and allied health professions and to support research through partnerships.

The presentation will feature a panel of Omani students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha who will share information about their culture and their home.

“We are delighted that Omani students at UNO are willing to share a bit about their culture with us,” said Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the College of Nursing.

“As part of our work with officials from the Sultanate of Oman to develop opportunities for academic exchanges, we are eager to learn more about the Omani culture and the experience of Omanis who are students in the U.S. Global understanding is a key element of contemporary health professions education,” she said.

Dr. Sebastian called the effort “part of many important international educational initiatives in the College of Nursing.”
