Mike Boyer
Mike Boyer has been named the director of global relations for the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. Boyer will provide leadership and coordination of international relationships, alliances and partnerships for the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, while developing a strategic plan for implementing programs that strengthen the global reach of UNMC as an internationally renowned public academic health sciences center. Boyer comes to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center from Humanity United, a private grant-making foundation working to promote global peace and security issues.

Surinder Batra, Ph.D., professor and chairman of biochemistry and molecular biology, will deliver a presentation on Nov. 22 at the 75th Annual Congress of the Japan Surgical Association. Dr. Batra was named UNMC’s seventh Scientist Laureate in 2012.

Music as Medicine returns Nov. 21 with a free performance by “I, the Siren,” an Omaha Chamber Music Society trio. The group features soprano Shelby VanNordstrand, Darci Gamerl on the oboe and English horn and pianist Stacie Haneline. The performance will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the Durham Outpatient Center’s west atrium.

The newly relocated Center for Advanced Surgical Technology and Minimally Invasive Surgery will hold an open house featuring interactive displays, refreshments and information on the center’s research support.
