UNMC public ice skating rink to open Nov. 30

The University of Nebraska Medical Center will open its outdoor public skating rink on Saturday, Nov. 30. The rink will be open through Jan. 11.

The rink is located just east of 42nd Street midway between Emile Street and Dewey Avenue on the north side of the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education building. The rink features concessions, music and seasonal decorations.

Hours of operation are:

  • Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m; 4 p.m. – 8 p.m;
  • Friday, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m; 4 p.m. – 10 p.m;
  • Saturday, Noon – 10 p.m;
  • Sunday, Noon – 8 p.m.

The rink will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Admission and skate rental is free with identification for employees (and family, significant others who accompany them) of UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center, as well as Clarkson College students and Ronald McDonald House guests. Cost for the public is $7 including skates. Cash or credit card only (no checks or debit cards).

Free parking is available in lots along 40th St. between Dewey Avenue & Emile Street and in the lot along 41st Street between Emile & Leavenworth streets. Parking maps and more information are available at www.unmc.edu/skate.

Two fundraising benefits are scheduled. The Ronald McDonald House benefit skate “Freezin’ for a Reason” for families who stay at the house, will take place Dec. 7 and the UNMC Skate-a-thon for Parkinson’s will take place Jan. 10-11.
