UNMC College of Nursing students who are members of the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Gamma Pi at Large honor society, presented treat bags to hospitalized children at The Nebraska Medical Center during the Annual Pediatric Trick or Treat Parade Oct. 31 in the Durham Outpatient Center. Student Services will be handing out coffee, hot chocolate and cookies (while supplies last) on Veteran’s Day, Monday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sorrell Center – Alumni Commons Area. The event is intended to honor all active military, veterans and their families.
Surinder Batra, Ph.D., professor and chairman of biochemistry and molecular biology, will deliver the keynote presentation at the University of Missouri Health System’s Health Science Research Day on Nov. 14. Dr. Batra was named UNMC’s seventh Scientist Laureate in 2012.
UNMC was recognized as being one of 2013’s Fulbright Program “top producers” and was highlighted in the Oct. 28 edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education. Sara Pirtle is UNMC’s Fulbright student program adviser. UNMC’s Andrew Baumgartner was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship earlier this year.
Six family medicine physicians who were part of the UNMC delegation that went to China last month were awarded courtesy professorships at Tongji University in Shanghai. The recipients of the courtesy professorships were (seen in photo at right, from left to right):
