The University of Nebraska Online Worldwide and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Office of Online and Distance Education will co-host an upcoming faculty development opportunity Nov. 12 focused on education in the face of rapidly changing technology.
The event is the second in a series of “Campus Conversations” to be held across the University of Nebraska about technology and online learning.
The luncheon event begins at 11:30 a.m. and will feature keynote speaker Charles Dziuban, Ph.D., director of the Research Initiative for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Central Florida. The session is free for all NU employees and will be web-streamed live for those who cannot attend in person. Registration is required by Nov. 8 and can be completed here; a link to the web-streamed presentation will be provided to virtual attendees after they register.
Dr. Dziuban’s presentation is titled “Conducting Class-Based Research: Small Studies That Make a Big Difference.” He will discuss the strategy in place at UCF that supports a large number of faculty-led research projects designed to improve instructional and learning effectiveness. He will present ideas for class-based scholarship through a variety of examples, online and otherwise.
The event will be in Room 212 of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center on UNL’s City Campus.
“With these Campus Conversations, we are collaborating with each campus to provide faculty development opportunities in areas related to distance education to our campuses throughout the year,” said Mary Niemiec, associate vice president for distance education and director of University of Nebraska Online Worldwide. “I encourage members of the university community to participate in the series and engage in a dialogue with their colleagues about how they might further enhance student learning in their online courses.”

Dates for future Campus Conversation talks — which will be held on each of the campuses throughout the year — will be announced as they are scheduled. All sessions are free for NU faculty and staff and keynote sessions will be streamed live on the web.
