An army of 14,000 runners marched out in droves to support the fight against breast cancer at this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, sponsored by the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
This year marks the 20th anniversary Nebraskans have joined forces to raise donations for Komen. More than 75 percent of the money raised stays in the state to fund programs such as free breast exams and mammograms, financial assistance programs, and educational outreach programs.
With more than 30 representatives from UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, and UNMC Physicians, the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center team contributed more than $10,000.
“The race was fun and something I hope to do every year,” said Karli Burt, a team captain who works in UNMC Physicians’ ENT department. “I know many people that have been affected by cancer recently, especially breast cancer, and wanted to support them by doing this race.”
