Oct. 16 – The Omaha Metropolitan Medical Response System will hold a citywide disaster drill.

Oct. 17 – The Nebraska Department of Insurance will hold an educational session on the Affordable Care Act. The session, which is open to the public, will provide an introductory presentation on Health Insurance Exchanges and the role of the state in a federally facilitated marketplace. The UNMC event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

Oct. 18 and 25 – The UNMC Department of Public Relations is offering free media training to any interested faculty. The training will prepare faculty should they be called to speak with members of the media. The Oct. 18 class will run from 10 a.m. to noon and the Oct. 25 class will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Both classes will be in Room 1005 of the Sorrell Center. Classes are limited to 15 people. To sign up for media training, please email Lisa Spellman with the preferred date and time.

Oct. 28-31 – UNMC Spirit Week will feature free food and drink, free giveaway items, yoga, a scavenger hunt and an event in which UNMC faculty and staff can get a whipped cream pie in their face to raise money for the Student Senate Scholarship Fund.

Nov. 3-5 — UNMC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend the Rural Futures Conference in Lincoln. The theme for the 2013 Rural Futures Conference is “Beyond Boundaries,” which encourages all of us to step beyond our typical boundaries and work together to create positive rural futures. The conference will celebrate the importance of rural and create energy and enthusiasm for new and innovative ways to address complex opportunities and challenges.
