The newest University of Nebraska Regent — Rob Schafer of Beatrice, Neb. — toured UNMC on Aug. 23.
Schafer was appointed to the board this spring by Gov. Dave Heineman to fill the District 5 seat vacated when LaVon Heidemann became lieutenant governor.
Schafer is a managing partner at Carlson, Schafer & Davis, a law firm in Beatrice. He is a member of the Nebraska Air National Guard and serves as a Major and Staff Judge Advocate for the 155th Air Refueling Wing. He also owns and operates a farm in Pawnee County.
Schafer’s campus tour included meetings with campus leaders, as well as presentations that showcased UNMC’s work with patient simulation, advanced surgical technologies and telehealth.
Schafer said: “What impressed me the most about the tour is the passion that both faculty and students shared regarding their research and delivery of health care services to the residents of the state of Nebraska. The dedication and hard work that is ongoing at the medical center is inspiring to us all. We are very fortunate to have a medical center of this caliber in our state!”
