Celebrating Environmental Services Week: Meet Linda Flowers

Linda Flowers

Each day this week — which is Environmental Services Week — we’ll get to know one of our campus environmental services workers who keep the medical center clean and running smoothly.

Today we meet:

Name: Linda Flowers

Title: Environmental Services Worker

Years at UNMC: 24 years

Buildings I work at: Bennett Hall (previously in Laundry and Linen at the Academic and Research Services building).

Compliments accepted

If you’d like to applaud an EVS worker this week, leave a message in the “Comments” field below. Tell us who you want to thank and what a great job they do.

Favorite thing about UNMC: I like the people. I’m a people person. I like how friendly people are, and the way we help if a person is lost. I also like the atmosphere at UNMC, and I think we all care about each other.

Three things you don’t know about me:

  • When I’m working, I like to sing.
  • I was born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago. That’s where I met my husband (originally from Arkansas), who was attending Malcolm X College. We moved to Omaha after he was offered a job here.
  • I’m very picky, especially when it comes to cleaning. I like things to be a certain way.

Here in the eye clinic, we have been able to be blessed with such nice people. Earl just retired and his partner has picked up the slack and is working way too hard, this is a big building and she is busy but greets us with a smile and a good morning. Thanks to her for a job well done.

I met Linda my first day on the job here in the School of Allied Health Professions. She has greeted me by name, with a smile every single time she has seen me since then. While she does a great job keeping our building sparkling, it is her sunny attitude that I truly appreciate.

Linda was able to make Bennett Hall look great when some of us were occupants before the renovation- no small task! As I recall, she was able to follow us to BSC when we were temporarily housed there during the BTH renovation. She has been a smiling part of the SAHP for as long as I can remember, and when she is out on those rare breaks from work she is definitely missed!

Linda Flowers and Bob Wachter have been providing the highest quality service to Bennett Hall and its occupants since it opened as the newly renovated home for the School of Allied Health Professions. Five years later, the building looks as good as it did in 2008. Thanks to both of you for your outstanding work.

Linda Flowers is someone I look up to. She is loving and wise in sincere ways. She works hard; in fact she could choose not to work due to health issues, but says she would rather be busy and be with people. When one of my co-workers was seriously ill, Linda sent many messages of genuine love and support. I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with her in my life.
