Lookin’ at U – Jeff Elliott

Jeff Elliott

Each Thursday, UNMC Today features a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about Jeff Elliott, director of procurement and materials management.

  • Name: Jeff Elliott
  • Hometown: Beatrice, Neb.
  • Number of years at UNMC: Three years

Tell us a bit about what you do at UNMC:

I direct the procurement and materials management services on campus, which includes purchasing, accounts payable, general supply, mail services, printing services and eSHOP. Each day we partner with the colleges, institutes and departments in support of their pursuit of excellence in education, research and patient care.

“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s core values. Tell us about someone at UNMC who is a trusted resource for you:

I certainly rely on my supervisor, Associate Vice Chancellor for Business Deb Thomas, as a trusted resource. There are many others, including colleagues on the Department Administrative Round Table (DART) and the Financial Stewardship Council. In addition, we have tried to focus on end users of our services as resources in helping us to improve and implement new things. The best example of this was during the implementation of eSHOP where we held weekly campus forums to assist and guide us. Those forums evolved into the eSHOP User Group, which plays the same role today.

What is your favorite summer activity?

Definitely travel, preferably to a warm destination. Also I still play a little golf — unfortunately, very little.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I served as a direct appointee of Gov. Ben Nelson and Gov. Mike Johanns in Nebraska’s health and human services system.
  • I lived in Florida for seven years, riding the ups and downs of real estate sales and development.
  • I have been married to my “high school sweetheart” for 36 years.
