Andrew Baumgartner, a fourth-year medical student at UNMC, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship to the Netherlands in philosophy.
Baumgartner, who was “Student of the Month” in the July issue of InterCOM, is one of more than 1,700 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2013-2014 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential.
Two students earn Presidential Graduate Fellowships
Two UNMC graduate students were among the seven recipients of 2013-14 Presidential Graduate Fellowships, announced by University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken. These prestigious fellowships honor a select group of NU graduate students each year on the basis of high scholastic performance and personal accomplishment. UNMC’s two fellows are:
Tao Li, Tianjin, China – A Ph.D. student in health services research and administration, Li’s research focuses on hospital cost shifting because of payment shortfalls by public programs.
Richard Nelson, Sturgis, S.D. – A Ph.D. student in genetics and immunology, Nelson’s research objective is to clarify the role that estrogen receptor-alpha signaling pathways in CD-4+ T-cells play in promoting the onset and maintenance of systemic lupus erythematosus.
