Lookin’ at U – Eugene Boilesen

Each Thursday, UNMC Today features a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about Eugene Boilesen, programmer/analyst with the Center for Collaboration on Research, Design and Analysis in the College of Public Health.

• Hometown: Lincoln, Neb.
• Number of years at UNMC: 19 years this fall, plus 20 years at UNL prior to that.

Tell us a bit about what you do at UNMC.
I am a programmer/analyst with the Center for Collaboration on Research, Design and Analysis in the College of Public Health. I work with researchers and biostatisticians with data management and analysis needs.

Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group work together at UNMC.
Since I work for a center where a key word in the title is “collaboration,” I see this happening on a daily basis. Just about every project that I work on involves a team of researchers, statisticians and support staff working on a project that may involve writing a protocol, recruiting participants, conducting the research, data management, data analysis and publication of the results. This group may include persons from the College of Public Health, multiple departments at UNMC or even other institutions.

What is your favorite summer activity?

Camping and just hanging out with my family (three children and nine grandchildren).

List three things people may not know about you.

• My wife and I are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this month.
• I have been carpooling from Lincoln for the past 19 years.
• I play hand bells in my church bell choir. For the past nine years, my wife, oldest son and I have spent a week in northern Michigan with 100 other bell ringers. We practice challenging music for about 24 hours in four days and then present a concert.
