Ollie the Trolley will be back on campus on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to take members of the UNMC community on an evening trek through South Omaha.
The Magic City tour focuses on the growth of South Omaha, which was founded in 1884 with the creation of the Union Stockyards. By 1890, South Omaha was the fastest growing city in the country, earning the nickname, “Magic City.”
The Durham Museum invites The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC students and employees on a trolley tour to view and learn about several sites through this historical, unique area of Omaha.
The tour also will highlight how waves of immigrants flocked to the community to carve out a new life while working in the Union Stockyard businesses.
Reservations must be made in advance and are limited to employees and students of UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center only.
Registration: The tour costs $5 (cash only) and seating is limited. Contact UNMC Events to reserve your space.
When: Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. The tour leaves promptly at the scheduled time and will last about 75 minutes.
Where: The tour starts just outside the Durham Research Center on Durham Research Plaza. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
