Registration is now open for the second annual Advances in Parkinson’s Care Conference, to be held Oct. 11 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Omaha.
The conference — intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, occupational and physical therapists — will address the need for coordination of care, clinical guidelines for assessment and management, and an update on the current research for the care of the Parkinson’s patient.
Speakers include UNMC’s John Bertoni, M.D., Ph.D., UNMC’s Diego Torres-Russotto, M.D., Creighton University’s Michele Faulkner, Pharm.D., and others. The keynote speaker will be Alberto J. Espay, M.D., University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute, who will speak on “Learning Movement Disorders in Hindsight: Lessons from Pitfalls.”
At the conclusion of the conference, the participant should be better able to:
- Refine the clinical examination to improve the overall management of the Parkinson’s patient.
- Apply evidence-based practice guidelines for medical, pharmacological, surgical and rehabilitation service delivery to improve quality of care.
- Identify the appropriate candidates for deep brain stimulation surgery.
- Recognize the limitations, benefits and need for ongoing management of deep
brain stimulation. - Recognize benefits of early referral of patients with Parkinson’s to rehabilitation services.
