SHARING Clinics to hold informational meeting Thursday

The SHARING Clinics will be hosting a “SHARING the Experience” informational meeting for College of Medicine students from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sorrell Center alumni commons on the second floor.

The SHARING Clinics — celebrating their 16th year in 2013 — allow students to provide low cost, high quality health care to underserved patient populations. SHARING’s interdisciplinary approach to care is unique, making the program a national leader among student-run clinics.

SHARING’s three Omaha-based clinics each provide a different type of service:

  • GOODLIFE serves those living with type 2 diabetes.
  • RESPECT provides sexually transmitted infection (STI) treatment and testing.
  • SHARING is a general family practice clinic.

In addition, SHARING is partnered with the Dental SHARING Clinic at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln.

The event will feature light hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction of “M1 Survival Kits” and an informational presentation about the clinics. Interested M1 students and faculty interested in serving as faculty providers are invited to attend.

    Can nursing students attend also?

A representative of the SHARING Clinics, in response to the query posted below, said that nurse practitioner students from the College of Nursing can volunteer at the clinics. Any student who is curious about the clinics is welcome to attend if they wish to learn more about the program. But the presentation is aimed primarily at first-year medical students.
