New breastfeeding clinic at Olson Center starts Tuesday

Ashlie Bergren and Lara Anderson of Elite Lactation Professionals.

For women seeking assistance with breastfeeding education and challenges, the Olson Center for Women’s Health will now offer a breastfeeding clinic on Tuesdays from 1 to 8 p.m., beginning Tuesday.

The center will partner with Elite Lactation Professionals to offer a unique opportunity for women to receive breastfeeding support and education.

Services include:

  • Prenatal breastfeeding education.
  • Postpartum breastfeeding support.
  • Onsite lactation in-services.

Services will be provided by Ashlie Bergren and Lara Anderson at the center, located on the fourth floor of UNMC’s Durham Outpatient Center at 4400 Emile St.

Dedicated breastfeeding specialists

“We are so fortunate to finally have dedicated breastfeeding specialists in the Olson Center,” said Sonja Kinney, M.D., medical director of the Olson Center. “The health benefits of breastfeeding to both the newborn and mother are well established. During a patient’s clinic appointments and during their hospital stay, we can educate all patients on the benefits and strongly encourage patients to choose to breastfeed.

“The problem often times comes with just getting the breastfeeding process to run smoothly. Having Elite Lactation Professionals here to provide both expert advice and hands-on care will make all the difference for many women struggling with again getting started or trouble shooting common problems with breastfeeding. While the need for this care is widespread, it is not easily available in Omaha. Again, we are proud to offer these services at the Olson Center.”

Bergren and Anderson said Elite Lactation Professionals is excited for the opportunity to partner with the Olson Center, calling it critical that new mothers receive education before delivery and have access to outpatient help after they leave the hospital.

Elite’s mission is to promote breastfeeding as normal and support breastfeeding mothers wherever they are. Their vision is a future with healthy mothers, healthy infants, and healthy communities, they said.
