Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn about Jerrie Dayton, newly appointed finance/office associate at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.
- Name: Jerrie Dayton
- Hometown: Wichita, Kan.
- No. of years at UNMC: Seven and a half.
Tell us your title and what you do at UNMC.
For the past seven and a half years, I have worked in General Supply with a wonderful, dedicated group of people as a materials inventory assistant. My position included being assistant to the manager, financial analysis, procurement, management of a stockless inventory program and asset recovery. Monday, I began working in the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s developmental neuroscience department as a finance/office associate. I will be working with Shelley Smith, Ph.D., and other faculty doing financial analysis, working with their labs and staff and assisting with grant-related projects. It will be a whole new world for me, and I am really looking forward to the change. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming.
“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s core values. Tell us about someone at UNMC who is a trusted resource for you.
The folks in the McGoogan Library of Medicine are my go-to resource for almost any need. They’ve been known to provide transportation services, house- and pet-sitting, and reliable advice and research information when I’ve needed it. The staff knows who to work with and where to find any answer you need. It is hard to single out only one department, because I’ve found trusted and reliable resources in every department on campus. There are loyal people all around whom I know I can count on to help me whenever I need it. The ones I depend on most know who they are, and they know they can count on me to do the same for them.
What is your favorite summer activity?
To travel. I especially enjoy visiting historical sites and beaches. Some favorite places include Washington, D.C., St. Augustine, Fla., Williamsburg, Va., The Georgia Aquarium, San Francisco, Merritt Island National Seashore, Walt Disney World and, of course, Toledo.
Tell us three things people may not know about you:
- I listen to lots of music, all types — I enjoy seeing live music, especially at smaller venues;
- I have a master of fine arts degree; and
- I visit as many museums as I can, with a goal to visit all the presidential libraries before it’s over!
Munroe/Meyer is going to be very fortunate to have your skills. Enjoy your new position and thank you for recognizing the people at the McGoogan Library of Medicine. Kudos are always nice to receive from others across the campus,
Congrats again on your new position! So awesome to see you recognized as an official MMI person!
Jerrie, Nice article, I enjoyed reading about all your interesting activities. Good luck on your new job. Lisa Stillahn
