“Renoir to Chagall: Paris & the Allure of Color” is the highlighted exhibition for this year’s Passport Partners Family Day at the Joslyn Art Museum. The exhibition includes 55 masterpieces from the renowned collection of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, Tenn.
The Family Fun Day will be held June 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum as part of the Passport Partners program, a partnership between UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and the museum.
Other events throughout the afternoon include:
Ballet Nebraska
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a professional ballerina, what it’s like to wear a tutu all day, or how ballerinas pamper their hardworking feet? See Ballet Nebraska dance Bacchanale Variations and have your questions answered at a Q & A after the performance.
1:45 p.m., 2:45 p.m.
Painting en Plein Air
It’s a French phrase meaning “open air.” Learn to paint with small dabs of color — just like an impressionist — in the warm open air of Joslyn’s sculpture garden. We’ll have easels and supplies waiting for you.
Big Fans of Japan
During the end of the 19th century, many artists in Paris were fascinated by Japanese culture. As a result, some visual art of this time is a blend of both Eastern and Western qualities. Join us to create impressionist-inspired designs on traditional Japanese folding fans.
Drawing Dancers
Parisian nightlife inspired many artists, musicians, painters, writers and dancers. Pretend you’re watching a performance at the historic Theâtre du Châtelet and use chalk pastels to capture the movements of ballerinas as they pirouette, plie, or warm up their feet.
Ice Cream Social
We’ve teamed up with eCreamery to bring you special gelato and sorbetto flavors inspired by Renoir to Chagall. Sample them all, and vote for your favorite. The “people’s choice” will be sold
at eCreamery’s shop. Single servings of each flavor will be available for purchase at Family Fun Day.
Cookies and punch will be available for UNMC employees and their families in the Omaha Steaks Conference Room. Please bring your employee ID for access to the room.
The museum is located at 2200 Dodge Street. Admission is free for this event.
