“With mixed emotions and sincere appreciation for the honor of being considered for one of academic medicine’s premier opportunities, I am regretfully withdrawing from the UNMC chancellor search,” said Dr. Klasko, who is dean of the Morsani College of Medicine and CEO of the Health Sciences Center at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Klasko added: “The UNMC chancellor position, with the impressive support from the community, the world-class faculty and leaders, and the entrepreneurial academic mindset, is a premier opportunity in academic health. I was honored to be considered among the caliber of candidates that were identified as finalists.”
University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken said: “While I am disappointed that Dr. Klasko has withdrawn from the search, I understand his decision and continue to believe we have an excellent pool of finalists for this important leadership position at the University of Nebraska. I wish Dr. Klasko well and I look forward to continuing to get to know our other accomplished finalists.”
The first chancellor finalist, Fred Meyers, M.D., executive associate dean of the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, visited UNMC last week.
A second finalist, Daniel Wilson, M.D., Ph.D., vice president for health affairs and dean of medicine at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville, will visit June 19 to 21.
The visit for the third finalist, Robert Califf, M.D., vice chancellor for clinical research and director of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute at Duke University Medical Center, is still being finalized, but he is expected to visit campus in early July.
