Lookin’ at U – Lisa Stillahn

Lisa Stillahn

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn about Lisa Stillahn, an administrative assistant in the radiology department.

  • Name: Lisa Stillahn
  • Hometown: Omaha
  • No. of years at UNMC: 26

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am an administrative assistant to Craig Walker, M.D., professor and chairman of radiology. One of my main tasks is to create a weekly radiology schedule — and keeping track of 30 radiologists can be a little tricky at times. I enjoy the challenge and variety of my job and work with a wonderful group of people in my office as well as across campus. Being on campus more than 30 years, I started working part-time in the mailroom during my senior year of high school, I have been able to meet some wonderful people and glad to call a few my friends.

Working together is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a group working together to promote excellence at UNMC.
Last month, I was asked to work on a project with a short deadline. Everyone in my office assisted. I couldn’t have completed this project for Dr. Walker without their help. Excellence at UNMC is all around us, from the parking valet, to the receptionists, nurses, technologists and doctors in the clinics and hospital wards. We are all here to serve Nebraska and I am proud to be part of UNMC!

What is your favorite spring activity?
I enjoy working in the yard, taking my dogs for walks, and riding my horse, Diamond!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • For the past 5 years, I have been a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH)-certified therapeutic horseback riding instructor for Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA).
  • I am the proud owner of Diamond, a 12-year-old registered American Quarter Horse who is also a therapy horse at HETRA.
  • My husband, George, and I take our golden retriever, Brandi, to area nursing homes and hospitals including The Nebraska Medical Center for pet therapy.
