The second annual art exhibit for the Artists in Recovery program will close after a final showing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at the 906 Studio, 16th and Cuming St.
The exhibit is part of Finding a Voice, a UNMC College of Public Health Service Learning Academy project. It works to identify, understand and address the unmet needs of Omaha’s homeless population through the arts.
UNMC students and community members engage with homeless guests at the shelter and addicts in recovery to build self-worth, promote wellness and form a safe learning community where all can be treated with dignity and respect.
Three projects occur at the shelter each week: the Creative Workshop and wellness education; Artist in Recovery; and The Turtle project – geared toward children and moms.
Light refreshments will be offered Wednesday evening and Finding a Voice team members will discuss the project.
Art and T-shirts will be available for purchase.
