Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.
This week, we learn more about La-Shon George, who works in the finance cashier’s office.
- Name: La-Shon George
- Hometown: Born and raised in Omaha, Neb.
- No. of years at UNMC: As of August of this year, it will be 13 years!
Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
Working in the Finance Cashier’s Office, I verify and consolidate revenue received within various departments at UNMC as well as ensure that policies and procedures are followed.
Being a trusted resource is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.
I cannot think of one particular person or group, but I can say that the various departments (Library, Optical, Student Services, Security, ITS, COD, etc.) whom I work closely with regarding cash flow I would definitely consider them “Trusted Resources.” If and when there is a miscount of funds, the Finance Cashier’s Office is notified immediately and UNMC cash handling procedures are followed in order to resolve the issue.
What is your favorite spring activity?
My favorite spring activity would be just being outside soaking in the sun rays.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I used to march in a drill team.
- I like watching boxing.
- I have a 24-year-old daughter who graduated from UNO. So I would not get the “Empty Nest Syndrome,” I inherited a husband, two dogs, two fish, and a bearded dragon. What was I thinking?
La-Shon is one of the most trusted people here at UNMC. She greets everyone with a smile and is an asset to UNMC. I along with others in the Security Dept work with her on a daily basis. She makes our job easier by processing the daily money bags quickly and efficiently. Jim Looram Campus Security
