Say the name “Olson Center” to LaShon Williams and expect to hear more than just good directions. Williams is one of the many employees at the Olson Center for Women’s Health who consider the clinic the hub of women’s health in Omaha and the best place for women of all ages to receive their care.
“I tell everyone our clinic is the one-stop-shop for women’s health care,” says Williams.
As a medical assistant (MA) for the Olson Center for more than four years and an MA at the former UNMC Ob/Gyn clinic for seven years, Williams has seen the impact that an expansion of clinic services and educational resources has had on the community.
Over the past decade, Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson’s contributions have helped make the vision of a multidisciplinary women’s health clinic a reality. Their donations have made a specialized breast clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease possible.
Research projects in women’s health, gynecologic cancer and infertility programs, and an overall ability to better coordinate women’s health across multiple specialties are now a reality.
“Charitable giving plays a huge role in making things happen on this campus,” says Williams. “The Olson Center is a good example.”
“I’m Proud To Play A Part” is an employee contribution campaign to support the state-of the-art Cancer Center Campus and new Ambulatory Care Center. This $370 million project will help meet the need for additional clinical space.
Williams encourages employee participation because she knows the impact the new centers will have on the community.
“Giving money to help build the new cancer and ambulatory care centers is important to me because I’m passionate about patient care.”
The new Cancer Center Campus will house a 98-lab research tower, multidisciplinary outpatient treatment clinic and 108-bed hospital tower. The new Ambulatory Care Center will position the med center to provide value-based health care to an increasing patient population.
The campus locations will make cancer care and non-oncology outpatient services more accessible to patients.
