Reducing suffering in migraine headache patients will be the focus of the March 25 Science Café at 7 p.m., at the Courtyard Marriott, 808 R St. in downtown Lincoln. The featured speaker is Nancy Waltman, Ph.D., a professor of nursing and nurse practitioner at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Lincoln Division.
Dr. Waltman will discuss the magnitude of the migraine headache problem and explain why these types of headaches are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. She also will discuss lifestyle changes and medications that can improve the quality of life for those who suffer from them.
She oversees the migraine headache clinic at Bryan Medical Center and recently released research results that found less than half of people who suffer from migraines get diagnosed.
Science Cafés involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older), and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period.
