I support the faculty, staff and students in a wide range of duties including preparation and submission of grants and scientific manuscripts, coordination of faculty travel, and ordering of laboratory supplies. I also administer our Ph.D. graduate program that includes responsibilities to students from initial application to graduation and I support faculty with class schedules, Blackboard, reports, etc.
Being committed to excellence is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group be committed to excellence at UNMC.
Prior to my current position, I worked in the Center for Continuing Education as a meeting planner. We offered an annual two-week long review course that was attended by 100 to 120 medical professionals. The logistics involved in coordinating a meeting of this magnitude were monumental. The entire staff rallied together, worked hard, and felt good about their contributions to making this a nationally recognized review course. It is something that I look back at with pride and as a prime example of a group being committed to excellence at UNMC.
What is your favorite winter activity?
In February, we host an annual “Pallet Party” for family and friends at our cabin in Fremont. We make a huge bonfire from discarded wooden pallets and serve hot cider, hot chocolate, hot dogs and marshmallows.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I have my motorcycle operator’s license.
- I have a potter’s wheel in my basement and plan on playing with clay someday.
- My real name is Sharon (only used by my father when I was in trouble as a child).
Wonderful feature. Forty years — and still going strong. Thanks for all you do. Carla Pospisal
I have the pleasure of working on the same floor as Sherry; in fact just across from her and I see and hear on a daily basis how she interacts with others. Sherry is a true example of team work–whether it's her own EAOH team or part of the "Admin" team, she is always right there when anyone needs her. She is a walking encyclopedia of UNMC knowledge and is a great resource to tap on a number and variety of topics. I am blessed to know Sherry and hope we will have many more years of working together.
