Fifty-five members of the UNMC High School Alliance are among the students taking classes at UNMC.
The alliance students come from high schools around the Omaha area and take college-level classes at UNMC to prepare for health careers. Once each month, UNMC Today will profile an alliance student to let us get to know more about these young learners.

How did you get involved in the alliance?
My Tag Seminar teacher, Mrs. Steinmetz, and I were talking one day in class and she mentioned that I might be interested in this program for my junior year since I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. She encouraged me to apply and I didn’t let the opportunity pass me by. When I received the letter in the mail that I was accepted, it was an amazing feeling to know I would be a part of something bigger than myself. Here I am now, engaging in a whole new way of learning, and getting a taste of the college atmosphere.
What sparked your interest in science?
There is always so much to learn and ways of getting involved that the opportunities are endless. I also enjoy the challenge of consistently learning new concepts and with science that is always possible.
What are your career aspirations?
In the future, I aspire to be a dermatologist. In this career, I can envision myself helping others who suffer with diseases pertaining to the skin and giving them the proper care they need to fully recover.
What has been the best part of your alliance experience?
The teachers and students are all very friendly to work with. We all come here to learn, so we are always on top of our game. I would have to say though, that the best part of it all, is engaging in new opportunities that the alliance offers, but also getting more involved with the community because that is something very important to me.
