Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

UNMC College of Nursing students Chelsey Larsen, Kassie Finn, Emily Myers and Paula Byrd, hug a fleece blanket they completed as part of a collaboration with Project Linus. In total, the nursing students completed 65 blankets to be used by needy children in the Omaha area.
In collaboration with Project Linus, 65 students at the College of Nursing made fleece blankets during their Thanksgiving break for 90 children in the Omaha area who needed them. The children are waiting to be adopted, homeless and/or undergoing long-term medical treatments. The students hugged each blanket as they were completed. Some of the community partners that will benefit from these blankets include:
  • The Ronald McDonald House;
  • Sienna Francis House;
  • Project Harmony; and
  • Children of new immigrant families through Embrace the Nations.

James Campbell, M.D., professor of internal medicine; was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics recently at 36th annual meeting of the American Medical Informatics Association in Chicago.

Terry Huang, Ph.D., chairman and professor of health promotion, social and behavioral health in the College of Public Health, recently received the Design Research and Scholarship prize at the Virginia Society of the American Institutes of Architects annual meeting in Richmond. He was honored for his efforts to architecturally design a Virginia elementary school in a way that promotes healthy eating. The design covered the entire school, from kitchen and cafeteria to edible landscapes, water access and signage.
