Spirit Week 2012 – A vital celebration

UNMC employees and students are invited to the third annual Spirit Week celebration, which runs all next week.

Spirit Week celebrates the work employees do to make UNMC a vital resource to so many.

The following is a list of Spirit Week events on the Omaha campus (activities vary at other UNMC campuses):

Throughout the week:

  • Enjoy free admission to the Center for Healthy Living (includes fitness classes).
  • Show your UNMC spirit — decorate your office/area and send photos to today@unmc.edu.
  • Be the first to spot one of 20 hidden UNMC icons in campus buildings and win a T-shirt.

Tuesday

  • Free coffee & rolls at the Durham Research Center and Sorrell Center — 7 to 9 a.m. Go green and bring your own cup or mug.
  • Attend the Diversity Lectures and Cultural Arts Series in the DRC Auditorium — 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Magdalena Garcia of El Museo Latino will highlight the current exhibit, which showcases Mexican muralists and New Deal artists. Free lunch for first 50 people.
  • Learn more about radiation physics at the Science Cafe at the Slowdown — 7 p.m.

Wednesday — 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Free admission to the UNMC ice rink for students and employees ($3 skate rental fee not included).
  • Take pictures in the photo booth.
  • Don a crazy hat, maybe win a prize.
  • Chicago Dawg House will sell lunch (cash or credit accepted).
  • UNMC Bookstore to sell apparel.

Thursday

  • The third annual student broomball tournament at the UNMC Ice Rink — Time TBD.
  • Pie the Professor near the ice rink — 4 p.m. For $1, students can enter for chances to throw whip cream pies at faculty members of their choice.
  • Yoga in the DRC commons — 5 p.m.

Friday

  • Scavenger hunt with a twist (teams of three to five will meet at the Sorrell Center, Events Center at 11:15 a.m. for check-in and rules.) Teams will collect clues around campus, bring them back to the events center, where they will open them to solve a word puzzle. The first three teams to correctly solve the puzzle win prizes. Register your team at unmcevents@unmc.edu by 5 p.m. on Dec. 6.
  • Campus lunch (free pizza), Sorrell Center, events center — 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • UNMC Musical Society performance, events center — 12:15 p.m.
  • UNMC Bookstore to sell apparel.
