History of Union Station the focus of next Durham Museum event
Carrie Wieners, Curator at the Durham Museum will present “The History of Union Station” on Thursday, Nov. 29.
When: Noon. Employees are encouraged to bring lunch.
Where: Sorrell Center, Room 2018
What: UNMC employees and students are invited to this special presentation on the building that Omaha residents know as Union Station. The building is not actually the first of its kind, nor the first, second, even third railroad station in the city. To understand this complex history, the role of the railroad, and why Union Station is such an iconic building in our city, you have to go back before there was a railroad, even before there was a city. The presentation also will cover one of the city’s oldest traditions, Christmas at Union Station.
Partnership information: This program is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students and their immediate families with valid identification badges, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
