Wellness Wednesday – Exercise and colds

So a nasty little cold bug has worked its magic on several of us in Ye Olde PR Office.

My throat started to itch Sunday and by Monday night, the bug had completely set up shop. I debated whether to go for my run Tuesday morning.

Some of my runner friends swear a jog is one of the best things one can do with a cold. My wife, on the other hand, thinks that’s nuts.

I decided to run. After about five minutes of coughing to start, I settled in nicely and by the end, my sinuses were clear and I felt pretty good. As the day went on, the cold symptoms returned but they didn’t seem any worse than usual.

Anyway, an internet search once I got to work turned up this story from Runner’s World in which people much smarter than your UNMC Today editor discuss exercise and colds.

Maybe you’ll find it useful the next time your throat starts to itch.
