Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I am a speech pathologist at the Munroe Meyer Institute in the Scottish Rite Clinic. I primarily see children ages 2-7 diagnosed with autism or complex communication needs. I also participate in the Autism Diagnostic Clinic and the LEND Interdisciplinary Clinics.

“Commitment to Excellence” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a commitment to excellence in action at UNMC.

I am very lucky in that I get to see UNMC’s commitment to excellence on a daily basis. I work with a group of extremely talented and dedicated individuals who go above and beyond every day. This department rarely sees straightforward cases and the amount of effort, care and creativity that goes into adapting evaluations and sessions is inspiring! I am so blessed to be a part of this team.

What is your favorite Fall activity?

My family loves Halloween so we like to carve pumpkins and decorate the house with all sorts of fun and “scary” things.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I have worked for three different departments here at Munroe-Meyer — Psychology, Center For Autism Spectrum Disorders and Speech.
  • I met my husband on a blind date and we were married within a year!
  • My family and I started a nonprofit organization and are seeking 501c3 status this year. The organization is called “Aidan’s Animals” and is in memory of our 2-year-old son, Aidan.

So nice to see the talented and beautiful member of the Munroe Meyer speech team on this feature. The speech department is amazing and Jen is one of the special people that make is so. She did a beautiful job in describing the skills used for the unique nature of the persons they serve. I hope to find out more about "Adian's Animals".
