A series of seminars will be held on campus this week in recognition of National Primary Care Week, which is Oct. 8 through Oct. 12.

- Monday — Mike Sitorius, M.D., chairman of family medicine at UNMC, will present “Primary Care-Present and Future.”
- Tuesday — Andrew Vasey, M.D., of the College of Medicine; Jennifer Hickman, Pharm.D., of the College of Pharmacy; Tamara Dolphens of the School of Allied Health Professions; Nancy Farris, Ph.D., of the College of Nursing; Katie Kueny, Ph.D., of the College of Medicine; and Patrik Johansson, M.D., of the College of Public Health; will present “Heroes of Healthcare.”
- Wednesday — Tom Tape, M.D., chief of general internal medicine at UNMC, will present “Straight talk about health care reform.”
- Thursday — Sarah Miller of OneWorld Community Health Center; Randy Kohl, M.D., of the State of Nebraska Department of Correctional Services; Thomas Weiss of the Charles Drew Health Center; and Tom Rauner of the Nebraska Office of Rural Health; will present “Corps Community Day — Healthier Patients. Stronger Communities.”
- Friday — Marlene Janssen, executive director of the Rural Health Advisory Commission, will present “Beyond patient care, financial incentives.”
Also on Monday, UNMC’s Primary Care Progress and Family Medicine Interest Groups will present “Procedure Night: Casting Workshop” for students from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Sorrell Center’s Clinical Skills laboratory.
During the sessions, which begin every hour on the hour, students will split up into small groups with a facilitator that will guide them in putting an arm cast onto partners. The real fun comes when students get to use the cast saw to take off casts!
