Register now for the Oct. 5 Omaha Women’s Health and Wellness Conference, titled “Becoming Your Best Future Self.”
When: Friday, Oct. 5, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Embassy Suites Omaha – La Vista/Hotel & Conference Center, 12520 Westport Parkway.
What: The 15th annual conference aims to empower women to do what they can now to accomplish the goal of a better, healthier future. A variety of health screenings will be offered at no charge, including:
- Blood pressure;
- Glaucoma;
- Balance and posture;
- Body mass index;
- Cardiovascular; and
- Oral health.
Low cost screenings including lipid profile, glucose profile and complete blood count will be available for $17, and a thyroid-stimulating hormone test will be available for $7. Flu shots will be offered for $15.
Who: Speakers are:
- Breakfast keynote — “Creating Lasting Change: Preparing, Acting and Maintaining,” Larra Petersen-Lukenda, Ph.D., health behavior coordinator and staff psychologist at the Nebraska-Western Iowa VA Healthcare System;
- General session — “Cognitive Vitality: Maintaining a Healthy Brain,” Jane Potter, M.D., professor and geriatrician in the UNMC Division of Geriatrics & Gerontology;
- Luncheon keynote — “Becoming Your Future Self,” Julie Masters, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Gerontology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha; and
- Closing session — “Diet and Exercise as Medicine for Whole Body Health,” Daniel Anderson, M.D., Ph.D., UNMC cardiologist.

The registration deadline is Sept 28. The cost of the conference is $59, which includes continental breakfast and lunch, four keynote speakers and seven breakout speakers.
