The “Dog Days of Summer” have taken hold and as the mercury rises this week employees are reminded to keep up the energy curtailment activities that have helped the medical center save hundreds of thousands of dollars in cost avoidance this summer.
Those caught being good will get tasty tokens of thanks from UNMC LiveGreen and facilities, management and planning.
The LiveGreen folks will be on the lookout for employees who:
- Close shades, blinds and curtains whenever possible to reduce solar heat gain;
- Lower lighting levels where possible and turn off lights in unoccupied areas;
- Close fume hood sashes in research labs; and
- Turn off and unplug all electrical equipment not in use (computers, coffee makers, printers, chargers, etc.), especially in offices.
