Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Jill Wallen, B.D.S., has been named chairwoman of the College of Dentistry’s Department of Growth and Development, effective July 1. She will continue to serve as director of the Postgraduate Pediatric Dentistry Program until a permanent director is named.

Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, was selected to be part of the inaugural class in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Wharton Executive Leadership Program. From August 14-17, she will attend the program with 36 other nursing deans and senior faculty leaders at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Medical student Lauren Taylor, president of the Psychiatry Interest Group, received a competitive $3,500 grant from the American Psychiatric Association’s Helping Hands program to do psychiatry outreach in the SHARING clinic.

Kosuke Niitsu, a UNMC psychiatric nurse practitioner student in Omaha, is one of 15 graduate students nationwide to be selected as an American Psychiatric Nurses Association Janssen Student Scholar. The prestigious national award recognizes students with emerging leadership skills. He will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the APNA annual convention in November. This is the third time a UNMC student has been selected.
